WOL (Wake-on-LAN) is a device that helps in turning ON any computer remotely. Wake-on-LAN (WoL) is an Ethernet or token ring computer network standard that allows a computer to be turned on or awakened by a network message. WOL is a particular device that allows a computer to start remotely with a web application when the computer is in OFF mode or in boot mood. The message is usually sent to the target computer by a program executed on a device connected to the same local area network. In Wake-on-LAN, a sleeping computer is looking for a ‘magic packet’ sent to the entire network with its particular MAC address contained. This will provide the signal for that computer to essentially boot itself up from a sleeping mode by communicating via WI-FI.
